Designed by University of Washington Persian professor Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak, this program teaches Persian culture, how to write the Persian alphabet, basic grammatical concepts of the Persian language, and speaking and listening skills. The engaging features include the ability to take a virtual trip to an Iranian city and interact with its inhabitants. You can take a taxi ride, haggle with the merchants at the market, dine with friends, and check in at a hotel. Converse with up to three people at each locale; there are more 400 lines of professionally recorded dialogue. Vivid background sounds and hand-painted scenes make the city come alive. The Letter Recognition section of the program helps you identify letters within words. Persian letters can be tricky. They change shape depending on where they appear--at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of a word. This program makes clear where each letter is and what its function is in each word. Writing and spelling games build your vocabulary and test your pronunciation. |
